Leadership in Crisis: iCode’s Quick Pivot to Online Summer Camp Offerings

iCode provides seven revenue streams that assist our franchisees in ramping up businesses, including summer camps. Now that summer is officially underway, iCode has camps available both on site at select locations (observing strict sanitization and social distancing measures) and with live online instruction. Our leadership team has been aggressive in outlining our summer programs to ensure the camps are safe, accessible and can continue to generate revenue for our franchisees in the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Historically, our summer camps have been a major component of the iCode franchise opportunity. In 2018, we provided eight summer camp offerings and averaged 165 campers per location. Just one year later, we doubled the number of open iCode locations and expanded to 14 summer camp offerings, averaging more than 300 campers per location.

Last year, our iCode Allen Fairview location, which opened in January 2019, saw one of our most successful summers yet. This location partnered with the Allen ISD STEAM Center that had opened up just over 2 miles away, creating an additional 130,000 square feet of space. Through this partnership, we were able to host additional summer camps offsite at their campus. We successfully hosted 240 campers at the Allen Fairview iCode location and an additional 300 campers at the Allen ISD STEAM Center for a total of 540 campers – escalating the results of one of our newest iCode locations during its first year of operation. Since then, the owners bought an additional existing iCode franchise and established two locations within their first 12 months of opening.

With the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was important that our team pivoted quickly to not only create a safe learning space for our students this summer, but to also help our franchisees support profitability through this revenue stream. Our franchisees have been very vocal about our approach in facilitating this year’s summer camps, extending positive feedback on our team’s leadership during crisis and the proactive measures taken to ensure the camps could continue as planned.
