Why we love it π Every great spy needs to know how to send a secret message! The SCLSNJ Hillsborough Branch is hosting an awesome “Spy School” workshop focused entirely on the science of invisible ink. Elementary students will get hands-on experience using chemistry to write, hide, and reveal secret codes using simple ingredients found in a home kitchen. We absolutely love mystery and spy-themed events because they wrap complex scientific and logical concepts in a highly engaging, story-driven package that kids absolutely love!

Encryption & Decryption: When you write a message in invisible ink, you are “encrypting” the data so only someone with the right chemical key can read it. In our Cybersecurity and Python Tracks, we teach kids how to write code that does this digitally! They learn how data is encrypted across the internet and how ethical hackers protect sensitive information.

Problem Solving & Logic: Being a spy requires intense observation and critical thinking. When kids have to figure out how to reveal a hidden message, they are practicing “algorithmic thinking.” We teach our students to apply this exact same logical deduction when debugging their code to find hidden errors!
