VEX Robotics Competition Teams Are Launching at iCode Southlake!
Build. Code. Compete. iCode Southlake Robotics Teams Are Forming Now!
Big news for future engineers, coders, builders, and problem-solvers: iCode Southlake is launching VEX Robotics Competition Teams for the 2026–2027 season!
Students now have the opportunity to join a true competition robotics team where they will design, build, code, test, improve, and compete with their own robot over a full season. This is not just another robotics class. It is a hands-on, team-based engineering experience where students learn how to collaborate, think strategically, solve real problems, and compete in live robotics tournaments.
Our new robotics teams will run from August through April, aligning with the VEX competition season and giving students time to build skills, prepare for tournaments, and grow as a team.
Why VEX Robotics?
VEX Robotics competitions give students a powerful way to experience STEM in action. Students do not just learn about engineering, coding, and robotics — they apply those skills in a fast-moving competition environment where teamwork, creativity, and persistence matter.
VEX Robotics programs are designed for students in grades 4–12, with competitions, resources, and tools that help students build, code, and compete with confidence. Tournaments are held at the local, regional, state, national, and world levels, culminating at the VEX Robotics World Championship each April.
That means students at iCode Southlake will be joining a global robotics community — one built around innovation, competition, and hands-on learning.
More Than Robots: Building Future-Ready Skills
Robotics competition is one of the most exciting ways for students to experience STEM because every practice session has a purpose. Students are not just following instructions — they are working through real design decisions, testing ideas, improving performance, and learning from what does not work.
Through the season, students will build skills in:
Engineering: designing, building, testing, and improving robot systems
Coding: programming robot movement, controls, sensors, and autonomous behaviors
Collaboration: working with teammates toward shared goals
Communication: explaining design choices and competition strategy
Problem-solving: troubleshooting mechanical and coding challenges
Confidence: preparing for and competing in live tournaments
Students will learn that great engineering rarely happens on the first try. It happens through iteration, creativity, teamwork, and persistence.
VEX IQ Robotics Team
Elementary School | Ages 7–10
Our VEX IQ Robotics Team is designed for elementary students ages 7–10 who are ready to build, code, and compete in a fun, collaborative environment.
Students will work in small teams of 4–6 students to design and build a VEX IQ robot, program it, test it, improve it, and prepare for competition. Along the way, they will develop skills in engineering, coding, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork.
The VEX IQ Robotics Competition is built around exciting teamwork and skills challenges. The 2026–2027 VEX IQ game is designed for grades 4–8, and the program includes more than 17,000 teams from 54 countries competing in over 1,200 tournaments. Students participate in teamwork challenges, robot skills challenges, and online challenges that can include coding, essays, research, and more.
At iCode Southlake, our VEX IQ team includes:
- 9-month program: August through April
- Meets 2x per week
- 2-hour sessions
- 4 hours of instruction each week
- Teams of 4–6 students
- Team registration and materials included
- Entry fees for 3 competitions included
- Access to VEX robot kits and software
- Guidance from experienced instructors
This is a great fit for students who love building, coding, robotics, Minecraft-style problem solving, engineering challenges, or competitive team activities.

VEX V5 Robotics Team
Middle School | Ages 11–14
For middle school students ready for the next level, our VEX V5 Robotics Team offers a more advanced competition robotics experience.
Students ages 11–14 will work together to design, build, program, drive, and refine a VEX V5 competition robot. This program gives students a deeper look at mechanical design, sensors, coding logic, autonomous strategy, driver-controlled competition, troubleshooting, and team-based engineering.
The VEX V5 Robotics Competition is designed for grades 6–12 and includes more than 14,000 teams from 53 countries competing in over 1,300 tournaments. Teams participate in standard matches with two alliances competing against each other, robot skills challenges where one robot competes against the clock, and online challenges involving CAD, animation, essays, and more.
At iCode Southlake, our VEX V5 team includes:
- 9-month program: August through April
- Meets 2x per week
- 2-hour sessions
- 4 hours of instruction each week
- Teams of 4–6 students
- Team registration and materials included
- Entry fees for 3 competitions included
- Access to VEX robot kits and software
- Guidance from experienced instructors
This team is ideal for students who are ready for a serious robotics challenge and want to build real-world skills in engineering, coding, leadership, communication, and competition strategy.
Teams Are Forming Now
Our VEX Robotics Competition Teams are intentionally small so students receive meaningful instruction, coaching, and hands-on building time.
