Why we love it 💛 May the 4th be with you! To celebrate Star Wars Day, the Princeton Public Library is hosting an incredible, themed “eSTEAM Club” right inside their high-tech Spark Lab. Early elementary students will get a hands-on introduction to the mechanisms of real-world electricity by building their very own glowing light sabers using paper circuits! What makes this event even better is that it is guided by Princeton High School eSTEAM students, providing young kids with amazing, near-peer mentorship. We absolutely love themed STEM events like this because they take a pop-culture franchise that kids already love and use it as the perfect trojan horse to teach complex concepts like circuitry, conductivity, and hardware engineering!

• Conductivity & Circuitry: Before you can build a robot, you need to understand how power flows. When kids connect an LED light to a battery using copper tape, they are learning the foundational rules of circuitry! In our Hardware and Robotics Tracks, students use this exact same logic, safely working with real breadboards, wires, and power sources to build illuminated, automated machines.

• Creative Engineering: At iCode, we believe the “A” in STEAM (Art) is just as important as the tech! We love that this library event encourages kids to use paper crafts to engineer their sabers. We teach our students to apply this exact same maker mindset, combining artistic design with mechanical hardware so their projects look just as good as they function.
