Why we love it 💛 Observation is a critical skill for any aspiring scientist or engineer! The SCLSNJ Montgomery Branch is hosting an incredible “Mindful Crafting” workshop where middle schoolers will create their own DIY Glitter Jars. While these jars serve as fantastic mental health tools for mindfulness and emotional regulation (inspired by author Stefanie Lachenauer), they are also incredible micro-environments for observing fluid dynamics, buoyancy, and density. We absolutely love sensory crafts because they encourage students to slow down and closely observe how physical matter interacts in real-time!

How this event aligns with iCode Princeton 🌈⚙️ The physics inside a glitter jar are the exact foundation of digital particle systems!

• Digital Particle Systems: In visual effects and game design, if you want to create a magical spell, falling snow, or floating glitter, you use a “Particle System.” In our Digital Arts and Roblox Tracks, we teach kids how to code custom particle emitters, adjusting their speed, density, and color to create stunning visual effects!

• Fluid Mechanics: The glitter in the jar floats slowly because of the liquid’s high viscosity. When our students build 3D worlds, we teach them how to program those exact same laws of physics, ensuring that when a digital character jumps into water or interacts with a fluid, the digital gravity and friction react accurately.
