Why we love it ๐ Gaming is one of the absolute greatest gateways into coding and engineering! This year, the library’s NJ Makers Day program (sponsored by NJ STEM Month) features a theme inspired by Super Mario. Kids will get to engage in hands-on maker activities that bring their favorite video game world into real life. We absolutely love when pop culture and gaming are used to spark curiosity, creativity, and tactile problem-solving in young learners!

๐ฎ From Player to Creator: Playing a platformer game like Super Mario is incredibly fun, but building one is even better! In our Game Development Track, students learn actual level design, logic, and coding (using engines like Construct 3, Roblox, and Minecraft) to build their very own playable video games.

๐ The Logic of Leveling Up: What makes Mario jump? It’s an “if/then” coding statement! We meet young learners right where they are in our STEAM Junior Program. By starting with block coding, we help kids understand the cause-and-effect mechanics behind their favorite games.

๐ ๏ธ Maker Mindset: The hands-on creativity kids practice at Makers Day is the exact same iterative process we use in our STEAM After-School Belt Program. Whether they are designing a 3D-printed Yoshi egg or wiring a Snap Circuit, they are learning how to prototype and build.
