Why we love it 💛 Animation is just the illusion of life created through logic and sequencing! The Mercer County Library System frequently hosts hands-on “Stop Motion Animation” workshops where kids get to use clay, Lego bricks, or everyday objects to direct their own miniature movies. We absolutely love stop-motion events because before a child can make their character jump or run across the screen, they have to break that physical movement down into dozens of tiny, mathematical steps!

How this event aligns with iCode Princeton 🌈⚙️ Taking a series of still photographs and stitching them together is the exact foundation of Frame Rate Logic and Software Sequencing!

• Frame Rate Logic (FPS): Stop motion requires patience—moving an object just a fraction of an inch for every photo. In our Game Design and Digital Arts Tracks, we teach kids how this concept applies to computers! They learn about “Frames Per Second” (FPS), discovering how software engines process 30 to 60 individual images every single second to make their favorite video games feel perfectly smooth.

• Algorithmic Sequencing: If an animator puts their photos in the wrong order, the movie plays backward! In computer programming, we call this “Sequencing.” In our Python and Scratch Tracks, we teach students how to write the perfect algorithmic sequence. They learn that code, just like a movie timeline, must be executed in a strict, logical order for the software to run successfully.
