Why we love it 💛 The Maker Movement is all about blending traditional crafting with high-tech tools! Just a quick trip over to the Hillsborough Branch, you’ll find an incredible “Craft Studio” equipped with sewing machines, die cuts, and the highly sought-after Cricut machine. During these open drop-in hours, families and teens can visit the studio to experiment with these specialized tools to bring their creative visions to life. We absolutely love open-access maker labs like this because they allow creators of all ages to physically construct their ideas in a collaborative, supportive environment with library staff on standby!

• Digital Fabrication: A Cricut machine is an incredible piece of robotic hardware that relies entirely on digital vectors! Before the blade can cut a physical design, the user has to map out the X, Y, and Z axes on a computer screen. In our Digital Arts and Web Development Labs, we teach students this exact same spatial reasoning, showing them how to use digital software to create precise, scalable designs.

• The “A” in STEAM: At iCode, we believe that Art is just as important as Technology! We love that this library event requires attendees to use a creative, artistic eye to engineer physical crafts. We encourage our students to apply this exact same maker mindset to their code, combining beautiful UI/UX design with logic so their projects look just as good as they function!
