Who it’s for: Toddlers and Preschoolers (Ages 3–5)

Why we love it 💛 Some of the best foundational tech skills are learned completely screen-free! The Hopewell Branch has partnered with local experts Titusville Tabletop Games to host a fantastic drop-in morning of cooperative board games designed specifically for preschoolers. Kids will get to practice taking turns, following rules, and working together to achieve a common goal. We absolutely love early tabletop gaming because it teaches patience, early math skills, and the joy of solving a puzzle as a team!

How this event aligns with iCode Princeton 🌈⚙️ The rules of a board game are just physical algorithms—a set of sequential instructions designed to keep a system running smoothly!

• Algorithmic Thinking: When a child rolls a die, counts spaces, and moves their piece, they are executing a basic algorithm! In our STEAM Junior Program, we bridge the gap between physical games and digital logic, starting our youngest innovators with tactile puzzles and simple block coding that perfectly complements their growing problem-solving skills.

• Cooperative Collaboration: These tabletop games are cooperative, meaning the kids have to work together to win! At iCode, we believe in the exact same collaborative model. Our labs are not isolating; we encourage “pair programming” and team-based robotics builds so kids learn how to communicate, share ideas, and succeed as a team!
