Why we love it π Chess is the ultimate game of unplugged algorithmic logic! The Princeton Public Library is hosting fantastic drop-in chess sessions led by volunteers from Impact Chess, a local nonprofit dedicated to bringing the game to youth in the community. We absolutely love chess because it requires intense focus, forward-thinking strategy, and the ability to anticipate how a complex system of rules will play out over time.
How this event aligns with iCode Princeton πβοΈ Playing chess uses the exact same mental muscles as programming Artificial Intelligence!
-
Conditional Logic: Every move in chess is an “If/Then” statement. (If I move my knight here, then my opponent might move their bishop there). In our Game Design and AI Tracks, we teach kids how to write conditional statements, the foundation of all computer decision-making!
-
Algorithmic Pathfinding: A chess player has to map out multiple future moves in their head. We teach our students how to write algorithms that allow digital characters to do the exact same thing, navigating mazes and outsmarting human players in the games they build!
Join the fun, then keep the momentum going at iCode ππ Master the board at the library, then bring that world-class strategy to iCode Princeton where we teach you how to code the game yourself!
