Why we love it π Science isn’t just machines; it’s biology, too! The beloved Terhune Orchards is continuing their fantastic “Read & Pick” educational series with a morning all about farm chickens! Kids will enjoy a storytime featuring two books about chickens, followed by a hands-on farm activity where they get to visit the real “lady hens,” make a clucking chicken craft, and even learn a dance. We absolutely love farm-based science because it teaches early learners about animal biology, lifecycles, and how our local ecosystems thrive!

Systems and Cycles: An egg hatching into a chicken, which then lays another egg, is a biological “loop”! In our STEAM Junior Program, we teach kids how to apply this exact same repeating logic to technology. They learn how computers use “Loops” to repeat actions indefinitely without needing to be told twice.

Inputs and Outputs: Chickens require specific inputs (food and water) to produce an output (eggs). We use this exact same logic in our tech labs! Young students learn how computers require specific inputs (like typing a key or pressing a button) to create exciting digital outputs on the screen.
