Why we love it πŸ’›

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood! The Liberty Science Center is currently hosting an incredible, immersive exhibition based on the award-winning PBS Kids television series, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. Designed specifically for young learners, this hands-on exhibit allows kids to collaborate, solve problems, and use their imaginations to transform their surroundings. Children can play instruments at the Music Shop, create stories at the Movable Character Mural, and sort, deliver, and receive packages at the Neighborhood Post Office. We absolutely love exhibits like this because they use familiar, beloved characters to teach highly interactive lessons about community, empathy, and early problem-solving!

How this event aligns with iCode Princeton πŸŒˆβš™οΈ

Sorting mail at the Post Office is the exact physical equivalent of writing an algorithm!

  • Sorting Algorithms: To deliver a letter to the right house, a child has to sort it by shape, color, or name. In our STEAM Junior Tracks, we teach early elementary kids this exact same logic! They learn how computers use “Sorting Algorithms” to organize massive amounts of data, acting just like a digital post office to get the right information to the right place.

  • Creative UI/UX: At the Movable Character Mural, kids are manipulating physical objects to tell a story. At iCode, we teach our students how to upgrade this skill digitally! In our Game Design and Digital Media Tracks, kids learn how to program moving characters on a screen, designing intuitive User Interfaces (UI) and engaging stories that players can interact with in real-time.
