Why we love it πŸ’› Robotics doesn’t have to be intimidating, sometimes, it can just be downright adorable! The Hopewell Branch is hosting an interactive afternoon featuring their popular mTiny robots. These screen-free, panda-shaped robots are specifically designed to introduce young children to computational thinking. Kids can code the robots to race, dance, and sing, all while learning how commands translate to physical movement. We absolutely love introductory robotics events like this because they gamify early learning, making coding highly accessible and joyful for young kids!

How this event aligns with iCode Princeton πŸŒˆβš™οΈ Programming a robot to dance is the very first step toward writing complex software!

  • Screen-Free Coding: Tangible coding teaches the exact same logic as typing on a keyboard! By using physical command cards to direct the mTiny robots, kids learn sequential logic and cause-and-effect. In our STEAM Junior Programs, we use this exact same methodology, ensuring young kids grasp the “how” and “why” of programming before transitioning them to screen-based block coding.

  • Algorithmic Thinking: When a child plans a route for their robot to take across the floor, they are actively writing an algorithm! We teach our students that an algorithm is simply a set of instructions used to solve a problem. Mastering this foundational skill allows them to seamlessly transition into advanced programming languages like Python or JavaScript down the road.

Join the fun, then keep the momentum going at iCode πŸŽ’πŸš€ Code with the pandas at the library, then bring that world-class curiosity to iCode Princeton where we turn early programming into lifelong tech innovation!
