Why we love it 💛 Reading is the ultimate foundation for all future learning! The Ewing Branch of the Mercer County Library System is hosting a fantastic, quick-hitting “Fun With Phonics” session specifically designed for toddlers and preschoolers. Each week, little ones and their caregivers focus on a different phonetic sound, making early language acquisition fun, interactive, and highly social. We absolutely love early literacy events like this because teaching a child how to confidently read builds immense creative confidence!

How this event aligns with iCode Princeton 🌈⚙️ The way a child learns that specific letters make specific sounds is the exact same foundational logic they will use to write their first line of code!

• Pattern Recognition: Phonics is all about recognizing patterns, learning how small individual pieces (letters) snap together to create a larger meaning (words). This is exactly how computer programming works! In our STEAM Junior Program, we use tactile logic blocks to teach kids how to recognize patterns and stack commands to create an interactive outcome.

• The Syntax of Coding: Learning to read English is just like learning to read a coding language! Once a child grasps the foundation of phonetic decoding, they are perfectly primed to eventually learn the “syntax” (the grammatical rules) of real-world programming languages like Python, JavaScript, and HTML as they advance through our labs.
