Why we love it πŸ’› You are never too young to start thinking like an engineer! The Mercer County Library Hickory Corner Branch is hosting “Discovery Time,” an amazing hands-on program dedicated entirely to introducing young learners to Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM). We absolutely love early discovery events because they encourage pure curiosity. When a child engages with physical science and art experiments, they are practicing the exact same analytical thinking that software engineers use to build complex technology!

How this event aligns with iCode Princeton πŸŒˆβš™οΈ Exploring hands-on STEAM activities is the exact real-world application of the Scientific Method and Iterative Design!

  • The Scientific Method (Hypothesis Testing): When kids mix materials or build a structure to see what happens, they are running a systematic test! In our STEAM Junior and Scratch Tracks, we teach young students how this exact concept applies to coding. They learn how to test specific inputs through their block-based algorithms to see if the character on the screen does what they expected.

  • Iterative Design (Trial & Error): If a science experiment or art project doesn’t work out exactly as planned, you don’t quitβ€”you figure out what went wrong and try again! In the tech industry, this is called “Iterative Design.” We teach our students that errors aren’t failures; they are just data. Our kids learn how to review their blocks of code, find the bugs, and systematically fix them without ever getting frustrated.

Join the fun, then keep the momentum going at iCode πŸŽ’πŸš€ Explore the science at the library, then bring that world-class logic to iCode Princeton where we teach you how to write the software!
