Why we love it 💛 It is never too early to start thinking like a scientist! The Ewing Branch is hosting a wonderful, bite-sized STEM experiment perfect for tiny attention spans. Little ones and their caregivers will gather in the Children’s Activity Room to explore light, color, and reflection by experimenting with kaleidoscopes. We absolutely love early STEM events like this because they take complex physics concepts (like optics and symmetry) and turn them into a mesmerizing, hands-on sensory experience that sparks a lifelong curiosity about how the physical world works!

How this event aligns with iCode Princeton 🌈⚙️ The way a kaleidoscope manipulates light to create patterns is the exact same logic computers use to render graphics!

• Visual Patterns & Geometry: When a child looks through a kaleidoscope, they are seeing geometric symmetry and repeating patterns. Identifying these patterns is the absolute first step toward Algorithmic Thinking! In our STEAM Junior Program, we teach kids how to recognize and build these exact same patterns, using them to write their very first blocks of digital code.

• Optics & Digital Design: Understanding how light and mirrors interact is the foundation of digital rendering! If your child loves seeing how colors change and multiply, they will love our Content Creator and Digital Media tracks as they grow. We teach older kids how to use professional software to manipulate pixels, adjust digital lighting, and create their own visually stunning on-screen art.
