Why we love it π What kid doesnβt want to be a secret agent? The SCLSNJ Hillsborough Branch is hosting an incredibly fun “Spy School” event focused entirely on STEM! Young detectives will learn the science behind making invisible ink using simple ingredients found right in a home kitchen to hide their top-secret messages. We absolutely love mystery and spy-themed science events because they frame chemistry, logic, and problem-solving as a thrilling, real-world mission!

Cryptography & Data Encryption: When a spy uses invisible ink, they are encrypting data so only the right person can read it. In our Cybersecurity and Python Tracks, we teach older students how to write digital encryption algorithms, giving them the tools to secure passwords, hide data, and protect networks from digital intruders!

Variables & Chemistry: Making invisible ink requires mixing the exact right amount of ingredients to cause a chemical reaction. In coding, we call these ingredients “Variables”! We teach our younger students how to adjust digital variables to change the speed, color, or mechanics of the games they are designing, ensuring they get the perfect output every time.
