Who it’s for: Kids Ages 6 and up (accompanied by an adult)

Why we love it πŸ’› Science is a blastβ€”especially when you get to launch things across the room! The Robbinsville Branch is hosting an incredible evening “STEAM Explorers Workshop” led by a brilliant local Girl Scout. Kids will dive into the fascinating world of physics, learning the basics of elasticity and kinetic energy before building their very own working catapults! We absolutely love this event because it takes a complex scientific concept (potential energy) and turns it into a hands-on, highly engaging mechanical engineering challenge!

How this event aligns with iCode Princeton πŸŒˆβš™οΈ Building a catapult requires the exact same understanding of physics and mechanics that we use to build robots and program digital games!

  • Mechanical Engineering & Robotics: To build a successful catapult, you need a sturdy base, structural integrity, and an understanding of tension. In our VEX Robotics Track, students take these foundational mechanical skills to the next level, using high-torque motors, gears, and structural metal to build automated, competition-ready machines!

  • Physics & Game Design: Understanding how an object launches through the air (trajectory, velocity, and gravity) is essential for creating realistic video games. In our Game Development Track, we teach kids how to code these exact same physical rules into digital engines so their on-screen worlds react just like the real one!

Join the funβ€”then keep the momentum going at iCode πŸŽ’πŸš€ Launch your imagination at the library, then bring that world-class curiosity to iCode Princeton where we turn big ideas into real-world tech skills!
