Who it’s for: Kids in Grades 3–5

Why we love it πŸ’› Ready to take your building skills to the next level? Following their K-2 session, the SCLSNJ Montgomery Branch is hosting an expanded “Introduction to LEGO Robotics” event for upper elementary students! Presented by the incredibly talented high school students from “RoboReach,” kids in grades 3-5 will get hands-on experience with LEGO Spike Prime technology. We absolutely love peer-mentorship events like this because seeing older students successfully program and engineer robots is the ultimate inspiration for younger kids looking to jump into the world of STEM!

How this event aligns with iCode Princeton πŸŒˆβš™οΈ Building the hardware is only step one; you have to write the code to bring it to life!

  • Hardware & Motor Automation: To make a robot navigate a room, you need to understand how motors and sensors interact with physical hardware. In our Robotics and Hardware Tracks, we teach kids these exact mechanical engineering principles! They learn how to wire their robots, balance the chassis, and calibrate sensors to detect walls and obstacles.

  • Algorithmic Programming: A robot cannot think for itselfβ€”it only does exactly what the code tells it to do! We teach our students how to write the software that acts as the “brain” of the robot. Moving from block-coding to complex syntax, kids learn how to write the algorithms that automate their robots’ movements to solve real-world challenges!

Join the fun, then keep the momentum going at iCode πŸŽ’πŸš€ Watch the robots at the library, then bring that world-class curiosity to iCode Princeton where we teach you how to build and program your own!
