Why we love it 💛 It is time to turn our vegetables into electricity! The Lawrence Library is hosting an incredibly fun “STEM Squad” morning featuring a classic, hands-on science experiment: the potato battery! Presented by Slavi, a talented local high school student from LHS, early learners will get to watch a live demonstration and learn the simple principles of electricity and conductivity. We absolutely love community events like this because they show young kids that science is accessible, fun, and can literally be found in their own kitchens!

• Hardware & Circuits: When you connect a wire to a potato to power a small lightbulb, you are creating a closed circuit! In our STEAM Junior and Hardware Tracks, we teach kids this exact same physical logic. Students use tools like Snap Circuits and Raspberry Pi to learn about voltage, conductive materials, and how to safely route electricity to power their own custom machines.

• Peer-to-Peer Mentorship: We love that a local high schooler is leading this event! At iCode, we strongly encourage this exact type of collaborative mentorship. We design our labs to be highly social, ensuring that advanced students are always helping and inspiring the next generation of young coders.
