Why we love it 💛 Nature is the ultimate mathematician, and butterflies are the perfect example! The MCLS Lawrence Headquarters Branch is hosting a fantastic multigenerational art program where adults and youth (ages 10+) can team up to learn about the renowned Colombian artist María Berrío. Together, participants will study her style and create a vibrant butterfly painting. We absolutely love this event because painting a butterfly requires a sharp eye for bilateral symmetry, geometric patterns, and spatial balance, all of which are core components of visual engineering!
How this event aligns with iCode Princeton 🌈⚙️ The symmetry found in nature is the exact same logic used in Algorithmic Art!

Symmetry & Loops: A butterfly’s wings are perfectly mirrored. In software engineering, when we want to mirror or repeat an action, we write a “Loop.” In our Python and JavaScript Tracks, we teach kids how to write algorithms and loops that automatically generate symmetrical, repeating digital art!

Reverse-Engineering Design: To “paint like” a famous artist, you have to break down their complex style into step-by-step, repeatable techniques. In our Game Design and Web Development Tracks, we teach older students how to reverse-engineer their favorite digital platforms, helping them understand the underlying code and UI design so they can recreate it themselves.
