Why we love it π Did you know that cooking is just delicious science? The Ewing Branch of the Mercer County Library System is hosting a fantastic, hands-on “Country Cooks” morning with Ms. Sue specifically for toddlers and preschoolers. Kids will work alongside their caregivers to follow simple instructions, mix ingredients, and create a tasty treat! We love cooking classes for early learners because measuring, pouring, and following a step-by-step recipe is the absolute best way to practice sequencing and cause-and-effect in a fun, sensory-rich environment!
How this event aligns with iCode Princeton πβοΈ Following a recipe is the original algorithm! Combining specific ingredients in a specific order to create an output is exactly how computer programming works.

Sequencing & Logic: When a child learns that the wet ingredients must be mixed before the dry ones, they are learning the foundation of an “algorithm.” In our STEAM Junior Program, we use physical coding blocks to teach kids how to stack commands in a specific sequence to achieve a goalβjust like reading a recipe!

Variables & Testing: In cooking, if you change the amount of an ingredient (the variable), the final snack changes. In our beginner coding tracks, kids learn how to manipulate digital variables to change how their games look and function.
