Why we love it π Early hardware engineering starts with the senses! The Mercer County Library Lawrence Branch is hosting an interactive “Sensory Playtime” workshop, generously sponsored by the Friends of the Lawrence Library. Little ones will rotate through tactile, hands-on activity stations designed to spark curiosity, exploration, and creative thinking. We absolutely love sensory-driven events because manipulating different textures, shapes, and materials is a childβs very first introduction to system mapping, spatial configuration, and physical input testing!

Parallel Input Processing (Multi-Sensory Tracking): When a toddler plays with tactile materials, their brain acts like a high-powered operating systemβsimultaneously monitoring visual, structural, and tactile data streams. In our STEAM Junior and Scratch Tracks, we teach early learners how software handles this exact task! Using visual code blocks, kids learn how to configure programs that execute parallel scripts, such as tracking player inputs while simultaneously running physics counters and background animations.

In our Game Design Tracks, students program these exact transition systems! They write conditional scripts that shift an engine dynamically between different operational modes, like transitioning a character from a passive state to an active state when a specific collision trigger is met.
