Who it’s for: Teens in Grades 6–12

Why we love it 💛 Making slime isn’t just a viral trend; it is literal, hands-on chemistry! The Princeton Public Library is hosting a fun, relaxed “Craft, Chat and Chill” session in their Spark Lab where teens can experiment with different ingredients to create the perfect slime and “picky pad” fidget toys in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month. We absolutely love messy chemistry events because they introduce teens to non-Newtonian fluids, polymers, and the scientific method in a highly tactile, low-stress, and social environment.

• Variables & Outcomes: When you make slime, the amount of activator or glue you use is a “Variable.” If you change the variable, the entire texture of the slime changes! In our Python and JavaScript Tracks, we teach older students how to write the exact same variable logic to track data across complex software systems.

• Testing & Iteration: Getting the perfect slime consistency requires trial and error. At iCode, we teach our students this exact same resilience! When a script of code doesn’t work perfectly on the first try, we teach them how to adjust their variables, “debug” the issue, and try again until their program runs smoothly.
