Why we love it π Science is all about transformation! The Mercer County Library Ewing Branch is hosting a fantastic, bite-sized “Toddler STEM” session designed to introduce early learners to the magic of scientific reactions. Whether they are dropping an item in water to see if it sinks, or mixing baking soda and vinegar, we absolutely love these introductory experiments because they teach young kids how physical objects react, change, and transform when introduced to new elements!

Variables & Data Storage: In a science experiment, if you add red dye to blue water, the water turns purple. In computer science, we do the exact same thing using “Variables!” In our STEAM Junior and Scratch Tracks, we teach early learners how to use digital variables to store information. If they want their game to keep score, they use a variable that changes every time their character collects a coin!

State Changes & Boolean Logic: Is the ice frozen, or is it melted? Yes or No? In programming, a computer constantly tracks the “State” of an object using Boolean Logic (True/False). We teach our students how to code these State Changes, so their software knows exactly when a digital character is running, jumping, or standing completely still.
