Why we love it π Every great engineer has to start with the basics! The Mercer County Library Robbinsville Branch is hosting an incredibly fun, hands-on “Big Blocks” session designed specifically for early learners. Toddlers will get to safely practice their structural design skills using giant, oversized building blocks. We absolutely love physical maker events like this because stacking blocks teaches young kids crucial spatial reasoning skills, balance, and the importance of putting things in the correct order!
How this event aligns with iCode Princeton πβοΈ Stacking physical blocks is the exact precursor to Visual Block-Based Programming!
-
Visual Block Coding (Scratch & Blockly): How do you teach a child to code before they know how to type? You use blocks! In our STEAM Junior and Scratch Tracks, our youngest tech enthusiasts learn to program using visual, puzzle-like digital blocks. Just like the giant blocks at the library, these digital pieces snap together to create a solid structure, allowing kids to build their own interactive stories and video games without having to memorize complex keyboard syntax.
-
Logic Sequencing: If you try to put the roof block on before the foundation block, your physical tower falls down. In computer science, this is called “Sequencing”! We teach our students that computers aren’t smartβthey just follow instructions. Kids learn that they must stack their code blocks in the exact right logical sequence in order for their software to run successfully.
Join the fun, then keep the momentum going at iCode ππ Stack the big blocks at the library, then bring that world-class logic to iCode Princeton where we teach you how to stack the code!
