Why we love it π Biology and engineering go hand-in-hand! The Mercer County Library Lawrence Branch is hosting an amazing “STEM Squad” session presented by a local high school student. Young learners will get to discover exactly how the human heart works and then engineer their very own DIY stethoscopes to listen to it! We absolutely love bio-engineering events for kids because they take a complex internal system (the human body) and teach children how to build a physical tool to observe it.

Hardware Sensors & Audio Engineering: A stethoscope is a mechanical sensor designed to capture and amplify acoustic waves. In our Hardware and Robotics Tracks, we teach kids how to build the digital version of this! Students learn how to connect microphones, ultrasonic sensors, and motion detectors to microcontrollers, allowing their custom-built devices to “listen” and react to the real world.

In our Python and Scratch Tracks, we teach students how to write game loops that run continuously in the background, just like a heartbeatβkeeping their games, scoreboards, and software alive and functioning smoothly.
