Why we love it ๐ Video games are better when they are played together! The Manville Branch is hosting an awesome, drop-in Nintendo Switch hour for local kids and tweens. It is a fantastic opportunity for kids to unwind after school, play popular multiplayer games, and connect with other kids in the community who share their passion for gaming. We love social gaming events because they turn what is often an isolating, solo activity into a highly collaborative, communicative experience!

Analyzing Game Mechanics: Playing video games is research! When our students play Nintendo games, we ask them to look closer: How does the jumping mechanic work? How did the developers balance the difficulty? In our Game Design and Unreal Engine Tracks, we teach kids how to deconstruct their favorite games and then write the code to recreate those mechanics themselves!

User Experience (UX) & Playtesting: At iCode, when a student finishes coding a game, the project isn’t over. They have to let their classmates play it! This “Playtesting” phase teaches kids how to take constructive feedback and improve their game’s User Experience (UX), ensuring the controls are intuitive and the gameplay is fun.
