Why we love it π It is time to get up and get moving! The Lawrence Library is hosting “Movers and Shakers,” an incredibly fun, high-energy morning all about music and movement. Led by Miss Lauren, toddlers and preschoolers will get to sing, dance, and groove to their favorite storytime songs while playing with shaky eggs, bells, and even bubbles! We absolutely love early music events like this because they help young kids burn off energy while developing crucial fine motor skills, auditory processing, and physical coordination.

Rhythm and Sequencing: A dance routine is just an algorithm! When kids follow a specific set of physical movements to match the rhythm of a song, they are learning how to execute sequential steps. In our STEAM Junior Program, we use this exact same logic to teach early learners that the order of commands is what makes a program (or a dance!) successful.

Inputs and Outputs: When a child shakes a bell, they hear a sound. When they stop, the sound stops! This physical cause-and-effect is the perfect biological example of “Inputs and Outputs.” We use this exact same concept in our tech labs, showing young students how pressing a button or clicking a mouse (Input) creates an immediate, exciting digital reaction on the screen (Output).
