Why we love it πŸ’› Biology is the operating system of the natural world! The Princeton Public Library is hosting a fantastic, biology-focused “STEM Circle” in the Spark Lab. Designed and led by high school students from the Princeton International School of Mathematics and Science (PRISMS), this collaborative session will challenge elementary students to explore the microscopic world. Kids will learn all about cells, traits, and how they act as the basic building blocks of all living things. We absolutely love life science events because they teach kids how massive, complex systems are actually just made up of millions of tiny, repeating structures working together!

How this event aligns with iCode Princeton πŸŒˆβš™οΈ The biological building blocks of life act exactly like Object-Oriented Programming!

  • Classes & Traits: In biology, a cell has specific “traits” (like its DNA). In software engineering, we use “Object-Oriented Programming” to do the exact same thing! We teach our students how to code digital objects (like a character or a vehicle) and assign them specific “traits” (speed, color, health) that dictate how they behave in a game.

  • Complex Systems: A human body is made of cells; a video game is made of code blocks. In our Python and JavaScript Tracks, we teach kids how to take tiny, individual lines of code and snap them together to build massive, fully functioning software systems.

Join the fun, then keep the momentum going at iCode πŸŽ’πŸš€ Study the building blocks of life at the Spark Lab, then bring that world-class logic to iCode Princeton where we teach you how to code them!
