Why we love it π Unstructured play is one of the most effective ways for young minds to learn! The SCLSNJ North Plainfield Branch is hosting a fantastic, self-guided “Friday Fun” session to kick off the weekend. Elementary students and their families are invited to drop into the Children’s Room for an afternoon of rotating activitiesβfrom building with LEGOs and playing games to creating art and watching movies. We absolutely love open-format maker spaces because they allow kids to naturally gravitate toward their own interests, fostering independent problem-solving and creative exploration!

Tactile Prototyping (LEGOs & Art): Whether a child is building a physical tower or sketching a picture, they are learning how to bring an idea from their imagination into the real world. In our STEAM Junior and Robotics Tracks, we teach kids how to channel that exact same creative energy into building functioning robotic prototypes and visual art!

Game Logic & Rules: Playing a game requires understanding a set of rules and acting within them to win. In software development, we call these “Conditional Statements” (If/Then logic). In our Game Design Track, we teach kids how to step out of the player role and become the creator, programming their own rules, point systems, and winning logic.
