The coolest digital designs are built one single pixel at a time! The Plainsboro Public Library is hosting an awesome “Perler Beads: Dinosaurs” workshop inside their 3rd Floor Science Center. Tweens and teens will get to arrange colorful plastic fuse beads onto pegged layout boards to design retro, prehistoric sprites to take home. We absolutely love tactile pixel-art sessions because positioning discrete, colorful elements onto a rigid coordinate matrix is exactly how computer graphics engines process and build visual data!

They learn how to use professional digital asset tools to paint custom pixel art, designing their own retro game characters from scratch.

Coordinate Matrix Tracking: To form a recognizable dinosaur shape, creators must track specific spatial coordinatesβskipping rows or changing bead colors dynamically. In our Scratch and Game Design Tracks, we convert this layout logic into functional software algorithms. Students write variable scripts that utilize X and Y grid geometry to determine exactly where graphic elements spawn, move, and animate within a virtual landscape.
