Why we love it π
The best way to predict the future is to build it! The Mercer County Library Hickory Corner Branch is kicking off an awesome weekly “School-age STEAM” series crafted explicitly for elementary school makers. By rotating through a fresh, hands-on topic each week, kids get to actively blend science, technology, engineering, art, and math into creative experiments. We absolutely love multi-disciplinary weekly workshops because they train kids to view complex challenges not as roadblocks, but as dynamic, solvable engineering puzzles!
How this event aligns with iCode Princeton πβοΈ
Deconstructing a weekly STEAM problem into actionable steps maps directly to Modular Algorithm Scripting and Iterative Prototyping!
-
Cross-Disciplinary System Integration: Just like a great STEAM project requires balancing artistic design with scientific data, designing a world-class video game requires combining creative graphic elements with rigid mathematical logic. In our Scratch and STEAM Junior Tracks, young students practice this exact integration! They learn how to synchronize their custom visual assets with mathematical coordinate grids to engineer immersive, fully interactive digital spaces.
-
Iterative Variable Testing (The Engineering Method): When kids build and test physical models in a STEAM lab, they are running iterative cycles, testing a theory, observing a failure, and tweaking a single variable to optimize results. In our Core Computer Science, Python, and Roblox Tracks, we turn this physical workflow into a programming superpower! Students discover how to read execution logs, isolate broken loops, and systematically debug their code to ensure their applications deploy smoothly.
Join the fun, then keep the momentum going at iCode ππ
Discover your inner engineer at the library’s weekly labs, then bring that world-class analytical mindset to iCode Princeton where we teach you how to write and compile the software scripts!
