π§ͺ Physics & Fluid Dynamics: DIY Glitter Jar Maker Lab + iCode! βοΈπ»
Event: Mindful Crafting: DIY Glitter Jar
When: Wednesday, May 27, 2026, 5:30 PM β 6:30 PM (Registration Required!)
Where: Somerset County Library System β Montgomery Branch (100 Community Drive, Skillman, NJ)
Event link: SCLSNJ Montgomery Events
Who itβs for: Tweens & Teens (Grades 5β8)
Why we love it π Chemistry is all about controlling the variables! Just up the road from Princeton, the SCLSNJ Montgomery Branch is hosting an awesome maker-craft session for middle schoolers led by local educator and author Stefanie Lachenauer. Teens will get to engineer their own DIY sensory Glitter Jars as a tool for mindfulness and emotional regulation. While it is incredibly relaxing, building one of these jars actually requires a solid understanding of fluid dynamics, material density, and liquid viscosity to ensure the glitter falls at the perfect speed! We absolutely love maker events that sneak foundational physics and chemistry into a fun, creative project.
How this event aligns with iCode Princeton πβοΈ Adjusting liquid viscosity is exactly like tweaking a physics engine!
-
Digital Physics Variables: If you add too much glue to the jar, the glitter won’t move; too much water, and it falls instantly. In game design, we call these exact inputs “Variables”! We teach our students how to code custom physics enginesβadjusting digital gravity, object mass, and velocity to change how their game behaves.
-
Prototyping & Debugging: A maker has to test their jar before sealing it to make sure the ratio is right. At iCode, we teach our students this exact same resilience. We show them how to test their software prototypes, “debug” any errors in the logic, and refine their code until the program runs flawlessly.
Join the fun, then keep the momentum going at iCode
ππ Engineer the perfect creation at the library, then bring that world-class logic to iCode Princeton where we teach you how to code it!
