Why we love it 💛 STEM is all about discovering the hidden rules of the world! The Hillsborough Branch is hosting an incredibly fun, interactive “Spy School” session dedicated entirely to the science of invisible ink. Early elementary students will get to experiment with chemistry, learning how different common household ingredients react to reveal top-secret, hidden messages. We absolutely love narrative-driven science events like this because they take abstract chemistry and anchor it in a creative, imaginative, “secret agent” story that young kids completely buy into!

How this event aligns with iCode Princeton 🌈⚙️ Uncovering a hidden scientific reaction uses the exact same logic as debugging code!

• The Scientific Method: To make invisible ink work, you have to test different variables and observe the reaction. At iCode, we teach our students to apply this exact same scientific method to their programming. If a game isn’t working, they have to form a hypothesis, change a variable in the code, and test it until the “secret” solution reveals itself!

• Cybersecurity & Encryption: Writing a hidden message in invisible ink is a fantastic, physical metaphor for digital encryption! In our Cybersecurity Tracks, we teach older students how data is scrambled, hidden, and decoded across networks to keep information safe from hackers!
