Why we love it π Every great architect and engineer starts with a simple set of blocks! The Robbinsville Library is hosting a fantastic, hands-on morning session called “Big Blocks for Little Kids.” Guided by Miss Cathy, toddlers and preschoolers are invited to drop in and build towering structures, expansive forts, and imaginative shapes. We absolutely love block-building events because they are the ultimate tool for developing a young child’s spatial awareness, fine motor skills, and creative problem-solving!
How this event aligns with iCode Princeton πβοΈ Building a tower out of blocks requires the exact same foundational logic as writing a computer program!
-
Tactile Logic and Structural Engineering: Before a child can build a metal robot, they need to understand how shapes hold weight and balance. By stacking blocks, young kids are practicing early mechanical engineering! In our STEAM Junior and Robotics Programs, we harness this exact same concept, helping kids transition from wooden blocks to constructing sturdy metal chassis and attaching high-torque motors!
-
Block-Based Coding: The concept of snapping physical blocks together is the exact metaphor we use to teach early programming! In our beginner tracks, we use “Block-Based Coding” (like Scratch and Blockly) where kids drag and drop visual puzzle pieces to build their code, ensuring they understand the logic of software before they ever have to type complex syntax.
Join the funβthen keep the momentum going at iCode ππ Build a masterpiece at the library, then bring that world-class curiosity to iCode Princeton where we turn early maker skills into lifelong tech innovation!
