Why we love it π
True mechanical engineering bridges the gap between static designs and dynamic, automated machines! The Plainsboro Public Library is running a recurring “LEGO: Build with Technic Elements” workshop inside their 3rd Floor Science Center. Instead of standard building bricks, this community collaborative space lets makers manipulate high-level mechanical parts like gears, pinions, pneumatic pistons, and operational motors. We absolutely love LEGO Technic labs because configuring physical gear ratios and building custom kinematic linkages (connected moving parts) is the exact spatial prerequisite needed to master structural hardware programming and industrial robotics!
How this event aligns with iCode Princeton πβοΈ
Assembling complex gearboxes and rotary drivetrains maps directly to Mechatronic Engineering, Motor Drive Logic, and Variable Speed Scripting!
-
Mechatronic Architecture (Hardware-Software Sync): A beautifully built Technic chassis is purely manual until you introduce microcontrollers and code loops to automate it. At iCode Princeton, we show students how to cross that exact finish line! In our Robotics, Arduino, and Early Tech Belts, kids learn how to wire physical input sensors (like ultrasonic distance trackers) to mechanical output actuators (like electric DC motors), writing clean scripts that command their automated vehicles to navigate real-world obstacle courses safely.
-
Rotational Kinematics & Dynamic Math Ratios: Determining how a fast-spinning motor gear transfers torque to a larger wheel gear requires a solid grasp of structural fractions and mathematical variables. In our Game Design, Python, and Unity Tracks, we translate these exact physics parameters onto digital platforms! Students learn how to script physics enginesβprogramming custom variables for angular velocity, mechanical friction, and axle torque limits so their digital cars accelerate and drift with perfect real-world accuracy.
Join the fun, then keep the momentum going at iCode ππ
Assemble your custom, high-octane gear trains and mechanical drivetrains at the library’s Science Center, then bring that incredible engineering mindset to iCode Princeton where we teach you how to code, automate, and animate your creations in the physical and virtual worlds!
