Who it’s for: Kids in Grades 3–8

Why we love it 💛 Coding is meant to be a team sport! The Long Hill Township Library hosts an incredibly fun, ongoing Saturday “Hackaneers Coding Club” designed specifically for elementary and middle school students. Guided by experienced high school coding mentors, kids dive into hands-on projects using Scratch, Python, and robotics. We absolutely love community-driven coding clubs like this because they remove the isolation from programming. By turning what is usually a solo activity into a highly social and collaborative afternoon, kids learn how to problem-solve and build digital games together!

• The Agile Methodology: In the tech industry, no one builds an app entirely by themselves. In our iCode Hub Programs, we require our students to use the “Agile” framework to build their original games. They learn how to assign tasks, pair-program, and present their daily progress, mirroring the exact collaborative workflow encouraged at this coding club!

• Syntax and Logic: Whether you are building a beginner game in Scratch or programming a complex app in Python, the logic remains the exact same. We teach our students foundational algorithmic thinking—like loops, conditionals, and variables—ensuring they can jump into any coding club, in any language, and immediately start contributing to the team!
