Who it’s for: Kids in Grades 1–6 (Ages 6–12)

Why we love it 💛 There are few tools better for hands-on engineering than classic LEGO bricks! The Trenton Free Public Library is opening up the floor in their Children’s Room for an awesome, open-ended “Lego Hour.” Kids are invited to drop in and build absolutely anything they can imagine. We absolutely love free-build sessions because they strip away the instruction manual, forcing young makers to rely on their own logic, structural planning, and problem-solving skills to bring their ideas to life.

How this event aligns with iCode Princeton 🌈⚙️ Building a complex structure out of basic bricks is the exact foundation of Hardware Architecture!

• Hardware & Component Assembly: A computer is just a collection of individual parts—like a motherboard, CPU, and RAM—snapped together to create a working machine. When a child connects different LEGO pieces to build a car or a tower, they are practicing physical component assembly! In our Hardware and Robotics Tracks, we teach students how real-world tech components fit together, allowing them to build custom computers and functional robots from scratch.

• Structural Engineering & Load Bearing: If a LEGO tower is too top-heavy, it falls over. We teach our students to anticipate these exact physical limitations when designing real-world tech. In our Drone and Engineering Tracks, kids learn how to balance weight distribution, power, and structural integrity so their high-tech creations run smoothly without breaking down!
