Why we love it π For a toddler, creating art isn’t just about the final pictureβit is a full sensory experience! The Trenton Free Public Library is hosting “Tiny Hands, Big Art,” a fantastic weekly drop-in session that encourages little ones to get messy and let their creative juices flow. We absolutely love tactile, hands-on events for early learners because feeling the paint, holding the tools, and seeing the immediate results of their actions is how kids first learn about physical control and cause-and-effect!

Touch Interfaces & Capacitive Sensors: When a toddler paints with their hands, they are the hardware! Today’s smartboards and tablets use “capacitive sensors” to recreate this exact feeling digitally. In our STEAM Junior Tracks, we teach early learners how the screens they use every day actually work, transitioning them from physical finger-painting to designing digital art on touch-enabled devices!

Input / Output Logic: If a child presses hard with a crayon, they get a dark line; if they press lightly, they get a thin one. In computer science, this is known as Input/Output (I/O) logic! We introduce our youngest tech enthusiasts to this foundational concept, teaching them how a computer takes a physical “Input” (like the click of a mouse, the tap of a finger, or a swipe) and turns it into a digital “Output” (like a character jumping on screen).
