Why we love it π Every great video game character starts as a sketch! The MCLS Lawrence Headquarters Branch is hosting a fantastic Figure Drawing workshop where participants can refine their skills in a relaxed environment. Led by an experienced artist and librarian, attendees will develop a deeper understanding of anatomy, proportion, and fabric drape by sketching timed references. We absolutely love figure drawing events because mastering human proportions and physical weight on paper is the absolute foundation of creating realistic digital art and character models!

3D Modeling & Scaling: When a 3D artist designs a character for a video game or an animated film, they must ensure the biological scale is mathematically accurate so it moves realistically. In our Digital Arts and Unreal Engine Tracks, we teach students how to take 2D character sketches and render them into perfectly scaled, rigged 3D digital objects.

Creative Prototyping: The best way to prototype a game’s protagonist is to draw them first. We teach our students to utilize this same creative pipeline, emphasizing the importance of conceptual art, texture mapping, and spatial reasoning before they ever begin writing the code.
