Why we love it πŸ’›

Every masterpieceβ€”whether it’s a physical layered paper card or a high-end digital interfaceβ€”is created by assembling simple geometric layers into a beautiful final design! The West Windsor Library is opening up an open-access creation station for their “Drop-In Father’s Day Craft” lab. Crafters of all ages can drop by to layer colors, shape mediums, and assemble a unique project just in time for Father’s Day. We absolutely love hands-on crafting spaces because matching patterns, handling scaling, and arranging spatial parts trains the exact visual logic needed to design user interfaces and build video game assets!

How this event aligns with iCode Princeton πŸŒˆβš™οΈ

Arranging physical paper layers and spatial borders perfectly mirrors the computer science concepts of Graphical User Interfaces (UI) and Render Layers!

  • Vector Mechanics & Canvas Grid Arrays: Laying out a craft template across a blank page teaches children how objects occupy space relative to margins and focal points. We take this design framework and move it straight into digital environments! In our STEAM Junior, Scratch, and Early Coding Tracks, young creators explore digital canvas spaces. They learn how to use vector coordinates ( axes) to position graphics, scale custom artwork, and align in-game sprites so their visual layouts are balanced and glitch-free.

  • Object Rendering Layers & Asset Customization: Stacking background materials behind foreground accents is exactly how modern game software draws digital environments onto a screen! At iCode Princeton, we show kids how to manage these digital structures. In our Minecraft Modding, Game Design, and Roblox Studio Belts, students learn to build custom texture assets, script render layers, and define physical properties like scale and boundaries to bring their virtual worlds to life.

Join the fun, then keep the momentum going at iCode πŸŽ’πŸš€

Design a custom keepsake, experiment with different shapes, and assemble an awesome design at the library’s creation room this Saturday, then bring that incredible creative drive to iCode Princeton where we teach you how to write the software programs that style, animate, and build the tech platforms of tomorrow!
