Who itโs for: Kids in Grades 3โ5
Why we love it ๐ It’s time to play! The Princeton Public Library is inviting upper elementary students into the Spark Lab to test out and play brand new Nintendo Switch 2 games. Kids will get to socialize, share controllers, and experience the cutting-edge graphics and mechanics of the newest generation of gaming hardware. We absolutely love game-focused events like this because they allow kids to engage with technology socially, turning what is usually a solitary activity into a fantastic community-building afternoon!
How this event aligns with iCode Princeton ๐โ๏ธ We want our students to move from being consumers of video games to creators of video games!

Game Mechanics & Logic: When a child plays a new video game, they are interacting with thousands of lines of complex code! In our Game Design and Roblox Tracks, we teach kids how to look at the games they play critically. They learn the actual algorithms behind how a character jumps, how a hitbox registers damage, and how to program those exact mechanics themselves.

UI/UX Design: Playing games on new hardware teaches kids about “User Experience” (UX). They quickly learn what makes a game fun or frustrating. We teach our students to apply this exact same empathetic design logic to their own projects, ensuring the digital worlds they code are intuitive and engaging for the player!
