Why we love it π You are never too old to play and strategize! The Ewing Branch of the Mercer County Library System is hosting an awesome afternoon “Board Game Club” for adult card and board game enthusiasts. Attendees are invited to bring their favorite tabletop games from home or use the ones provided by the library. We absolutely love community events like this because they provide adults with a fantastic, screen-free environment to socialize, exercise their strategic thinking, and experience the pure joy of analog gaming!

Rule Sets and Algorithms: In a board game, players must follow a strict set of rules to determine how they can move, score, or win. In computer science, we call these rule sets “Algorithms”! In our Game Design and Python Tracks, we teach students how to write these exact algorithms so the computer knows how to enforce the rules, track player scores, and determine win/loss states.

Game Mechanics & Balancing: What makes a board game actually fun to play? It’s all about “Game Mechanics” and balance! At iCode, we teach our students that brilliant graphics mean nothing if the game isn’t fun. They learn how to design intuitive mechanics, test their games for fairness, and understand the user experience (UX)βskills that are vital for both digital developers and analog tabletop creators!
