Why we love it 💛 Great art—just like great technology—is never finished in a single step! The Mercer County Library Lawrence Branch is hosting an awesome, hands-on “Play with Clay” session where makers can sculpt their own creations using air-dry clay. What we love most about this event is the structure: kids mold their base sculptures first, let them dry, and then bring them back another week to add the final coats of paint. It is a fantastic, real-world lesson in patience, planning, and multi-stage creation!

• Rapid Prototyping & Wireframing: In the software industry, you never build the final product on day one. You start with a “Wireframe” or a rough prototype—just like a lump of unpainted clay! In our Game Design and Web Development Tracks, we teach students how to sketch out the basic framework of their games and websites first, ensuring the core structure works before they spend hours making it look pretty.

• The Iterative Process: Bringing the clay back a week later to paint it is a perfect example of “Iteration.” We teach our kids this exact Software Development Life Cycle! They learn to code the base mechanics, test for bugs, and then iterate—adding high-res graphics, sound effects, and polish during the final phases of development to turn their rough prototype into a masterpiece.
