Why we love it π Robots aren’t just in science fiction movies anymoreβthey are in our libraries! The Mercer County Library System frequently hosts amazing, hands-on “Intro to Robotics” workshops that give kids the opportunity to build and program physical machines. We absolutely love robotics events because they take coding off the computer screen and put it directly into the physical world, allowing kids to instantly see how their digital commands affect a real-life object!

Hardware Sensors & Environmental Data: How does a robot know when it is about to hit a wall? It relies on sensors! In our Hardware and Robotics Tracks, we teach kids how to physically wire these exact systems. Students learn how to connect optical, touch, and ultrasonic sensors to a microcontroller, giving their custom-built robots the ability to “see” and “feel” their physical environments.

Block Logic & Conditional Statements: A robot needs instructions on what to do when its sensors are triggered. In our Scratch and STEAM Junior Tracks, we teach younger students how to write these commands using block-based programming. They learn how to use conditional “If/Then” statementsβwriting logic that says, “If the sensor detects a wall, Then reverse and turn left!”
