Why we love it 💛 The best gifts aren’t bought—they are engineered from scratch! The Mercer County Library System is hosting a wonderful “Father’s Day Craft” workshop where kids can use their creativity to design, build, and assemble a handmade gift. We absolutely love hands-on crafting events because they teach kids how to take raw materials, follow a sequence of structural steps, and transform them into a fully finished, functional product.

Object Properties & Customization: When building a craft, a maker decides on the specific colors, textures, and dimensions to make their gift unique. In our Digital Arts and Game Design Tracks, we teach kids the software equivalent! They learn how to manipulate “Object Properties” in code—changing the color, size, and behavioral traits of digital characters and assets to create a personalized user experience.

Component-Based Assembly: A physical craft is built by combining individual pieces (like paper, glue, and wood) in a specific structural order. In our Robotics and Web Development Tracks, we teach students how to build complex digital systems using this exact modular approach. They learn how to write separate blocks of code (components) and assemble them together to build a fully functional website or a self-driving robot.
