Why we love it ๐Ÿ’› Before kids can sculpt virtual reality assets, they need to master physical manipulation! The Mercer County Library Hopewell Branch is hosting a fun, drop-in “Playdough Pals” session where toddlers and preschoolers can use rollers, molds, and sculpting tools to transform soft dough while hanging out with friends. We absolutely love playdough play because squeezing, flattening, and reshaping a physical material is a child’s earliest, hands-on exploration of volumetric mass, spatial dimensions, and physical properties!

How this event aligns with iCode Princeton ๐ŸŒˆโš™๏ธ Pressing dough into rigid molds and slicing it with rolling pins mirrors the exact mathematical mechanics behind Mesh Deformation and Solid Modeling!

  • 3D Mesh Deformation & Vertex Manipulation: When a child pinches or stretches playdough, they are changing its outer geometry while maintaining its total volume. In our Game Design, Unreal Engine, and Blender Tracks, we take this exact tactile instinct and map it to computer graphics! Students learn how to select virtual vertices, pull digital edges, and sculpt complex 3D character meshes using professional digital modeling workflows.

  • Boolean Geometry & Hard-Surface Molds: Pushing playdough into a plastic cutter or mold is a physical demonstration of intersection logicโ€”forcing a soft material to take on the strict boundary coordinates of a rigid tool. In our Advanced Robotics and 3D Printing Tracks, students use this exact structural rule! They write spatial scripts that combine or subtract geometric shapes (Boolean operations) to design custom, interlocking plastic mechanisms that can be printed out in real life.

Join the fun, then keep the momentum going at iCode ๐ŸŽ’๐Ÿš€ Mold your physical creations at the library, then bring that spatial-engineering logic to iCode Princeton where we teach you how to sculpt and animate in 3D!
