Why we love it 💛 There is no better introduction to engineering than a massive bin full of LEGO bricks! The Mercer County Library System frequently hosts hands-on “LEGO Builders” sessions where kids are given the freedom to design, engineer, and construct whatever their imaginations can dream up. We absolutely love LEGO free-play events because they strip away the instruction manuals, encouraging kids to organically experiment with structural integrity, balance, and the physical laws of geometry!

• Modular Architecture: A LEGO structure is built using hundreds of small, standardized “modules” (the bricks). In our Web Development and Digital Design Tracks, we teach older students how to use this exact “Modular Architecture.” They learn how to build complex websites and video games by writing small, reusable blocks of code, stacking them together perfectly to create a seamless digital experience.

• Object-Oriented Logic (OOP): When a child decides a square LEGO brick is going to be the “wheel” of their car, they are assigning it a new property! In our advanced Python and Java Tracks, we teach kids how to use “Object-Oriented Programming.” They learn how to take a basic digital “Class” (like a simple 3D box) and assign it unique attributes, turning it into a character, a tool, or a building in their software.
