Why we love it 💛 Knitting isn’t just a craft—it is one of the oldest forms of coding! The Robbinsville Library is hosting a fantastic “Knit and Stitch Club Jr.” where kids ages 8 and up can bring their current knitting or crocheting projects to work on in a highly collaborative, social environment. Basic supplies and books on the fiber arts are provided, and basic instruction is available for beginners! We absolutely love hands-on fiber art events like this because they teach kids incredible fine motor skills, patience, and the ability to turn a simple string into a complex, structural fabric.

How this event aligns with iCode Princeton 🌈⚙️ Knitting a sweater requires the exact same logical sequencing as writing an algorithm!

• Loops and Syntax: A knitting pattern is literally just an algorithm. “Knit two, purl one, repeat” is a direct example of a “Loop” in computer science! In our Programming Tracks, we teach kids how to use this exact same repeating logic to write cleaner, faster, and more efficient code.

• The “Maker” Mindset: At iCode, we constantly tell our young coders that prototyping and experimenting are the best ways to learn. Dropping a stitch and having to unravel your work is just the physical version of “Debugging” your code! We love that this library event encourages kids to be makers, testing new materials and learning how to fix mistakes with a resilient mindset.
